Kin-Ball
INTRODUCTION
Description: Kin-ball is a collective sport played by 3 different teams at the same time. Its goal is to throw the ball against one of the others teams and try that the ball hits the floor before that team can catch it. The goal of the game is very simple. Each team must try to catch and control the ball when the ball is served before it hits the floor. A match starts off with an offensive team calling out “OMNIKIN!” and then calling out the colour of another team. The ball is then hit inside the court with a body part above the hips. Players of the designated team have to catch the ball using any part of their body before it touches the floor. If the designated team is not able to catch and control the ball, a point will be given to the other two teams.
Fun Fact: KIN-BALL is the only organized cooperative sport in the world as all players must touch the ball during offense plays and all players must be involved during defence.
GAMEPLAY
Teams
-
Three Teams: Unlike most sports with two competing teams, Kin-Ball is played with three teams on the court at the same time.
-
Players per Team: Each team consists of 4 players, so a total of 12 players are on the court.
-
Team Colors: Each team wears a different color (typically black, gray, and pink).
OBJECTIVE
-
The main goal is to score points by serving the ball in a way that causes one of the other two teams to fail to catch or control it before it touches the ground.
Gameplay Time
-
Kin-Ball is typically played in two halves, each lasting 5 minutes.
-
The clock runs continuously, but it may stop for injuries or other interruptions.
-
If the game is tied at the end of regulation time, overtime periods or a sudden-death round may be used to determine the winner.
Winning
-
The game ends when one team reaches the set target score (commonly 13 or 21 points), or at the end of the timed period. If no team reaches the target score, the team with the most points at the end of the time wins.
